In the 1920s, over 500 families were removed from the Shenandoah Valley in order to establish the National Park. The removal process included dehumanizing the mountain people, even claiming they didn’t know what music was.

Utilizing an interview with George Berry from JMU’s Oral History of Shenandoah Valley, this video contradicts these claims. Music was imbedded in SV culture and used today to keep the culture alive.
